Portsmouth 1 Charlton 2

Charlton were lucky to escape Fratton Park with a win, after Jon Fortune and Shaun Bartlett rescued the Addicks to give them a second consecutive win, after a previous win at home to Liverpool.

Sheringham gave Pompey a deserved lead, although they had wasted previous chances to take the lead. But it was poor finishing that stopped Portsmouth taking advantage of a lack-lustered Charlton team.

Kiely was to thanks for a string of saves to keep Charlton in the game. Charlton went in at half-time after being beaten in every department on the field.

An inspiring Curbishley talk perhaps? well it certainly didnt look asif it had worked as Portsmouth again took advantage of Charltons' poor defending. But it wasnt until the 64th minute that Charltons hopes were boosted, when Paolo Di Canio came on in place of Claus Jensen, it now looked asif there was hope of a comeback for Charlton, Parker fed a through ball to Lisbie whos touch let him down and sent his 5 goals in 3 Premiership goals down the drain.

In the 77th minute Charlton drew level through Jon Fortune who blasted it home after a defensive mix-up. Portsmouth felt robbed and it seemed to rock them abit, with Di Canio sending crosses from all directions, one of them heading Lisbie's way but his header went staright into the hands of former West Ham keeper Shaka Hislop. Charlton now looked the better side, and were dangerous on the attack.

All seemed to be ending for a draw until a Di Canio cross was met by the head of Shaun Bartlett who sent it into the back of the net despite the efforts of Pompey defenders.
