Charlton travelled to Carrow Road this afternoon looking for their seventh win in eight games to help continue their phenomenal start to the League One season.

The game began with at a slow pace with neither side taking an early advantage to try and control the game, the earliest action from either side coming from the hosts after 8 minutes when Jon Otsemobor’s shot was blocked by Miguel Llera.

The breakthrough came for the Addicks after 17 minutes, with Deon Burton heading a Jonjo Shelvey corner into the back of the Norwich net.

The Addicks kept the pressure on Norwich and were rewarded after 39 minutes when Jonjo Shelvey found himself with a free header inside the area and able to connect with a Lloyd Sam cross to put the Londoners 2 – 0 up.

Norwich however fought back immediately to ensure that they did not go in at half time dead and buried, Wes Hoolahan finding the back of the net with an effort from just inside the Charlton area after 43 minutes

Half time: Norwich 1 - Charlton 2

The second half began with Norwich fighting hard to get back in the game and Charlton having their defensive abilities tested to the full.

The Canaries creating chance after chance and the Addicks, although not always comfortable were able to prevent the ball from finding the net on several separate occasions.

Charlton substitute Izale McLeod provided the strongest opportunity for the Addicks during a predominately defensive second half after 84 minutes when, after finding himself inside the six yard box with the ball at his feet, took a shot which managed to fly past the left up-right.

Norwich’s tenacious fighting spirit throughout the second half paid off for the Canaries when Grant Holt found himself in the middle of a mix up with Rob Elliott resulting in the Norwich man somehow finding the net and the score being taken to 2 -2.

Norwich were not done however and kicked their game into another gear, pushing for the winner with Christian Dailly being the only reason the Addicks were able to leave Norwich with a point.

By all accounts, Charlton were the weaker side and displayed that this will indeed be a very long season for Charlton Athletic.
