Colchester 3 - Charlton 0

The last time Phil Parkinson had taken a team away to Colchester, his Hull side were defeated 5 - 1 and that result effectively cost him his job. Parky’s Charlton side arrived in Essex hoping to continue their excellent start to the season but sadly Aidy Boothroyd had other ideas as he looked to extend Colchester’s un- defeated run to five matches.

The U's went ahead in the 28th minute when Miguel Llera headed Anthony Wordsworth's lofted ball back towards Rob Elliott only to witness the Charlton goalie rush out and miss the ball, the chase began to try and keep the ball out but sadly neither Elliott or Llera could get to the ball in time and Charlton conceded their first own goal of the season.

Charlton would have hoped to get straight back into the game, however, less than three minutes later, on loan Barnsley striker Kayode Odejayi latched on to John-Joe O'Toole's long pass to chest down and fire past the helpless Rob Elliot meaning that the Addicks went in at half time 2 - 0 down.

The result was sealed on 57 minutes when Kayode Odejayi linked up well with former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie to beat Rob Elliott and slot the ball home to make the score 3 -0.

Charlton’s only chance of the game came late on as Jonjo Shelvey, who had been ineffectual throughout the game unleashed a brilliant shot only to have it saved superbly by Colchester goalkeeper Ben Williams.

All good things must sadly come to an end, but with Leeds drawing against Carlisle, the Addicks move on to Saturday’s match knowing that a return to the form they displayed against teams such as Brentford and Tranmere will result in a performance that could see Leeds finally lose their unbeaten run.

Come on you Addicks!
