After changing their system at half time into a more attacking style, Charlton Athletic gained a superb 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

It was only their second home win at The Valley this season.

After a stalemate in the first half, Charlton brought on England Under-21 international Paul Konchesky after the break and he became an instant hero.

He fired the home side in front on 59 minutes with a superbly struck left-footed free-kick over the Blackburn Rovers wall into the top corner of the net.

Within a minute the visitors were back on level terms. Charlton were still celebrating as David Thompson fired in a well-struck shot from outside the area.

Charlton's striker Kevin Lisbie missed two good opportunities to put the home side in front, but they took the lead for the second time with Konchesky again involved.

His long corner reached Richard Rufus, who powered a looping header over Rovers keeper Alan Kelly, who was making his first appearance of the season for the visitors.

Jason Euell put the icing on the cake for the home side with a fantastic individual goal in injury time, his 25-yard volley flashing past Kelly before the keeper could move.

Blackburn will rue a missed opportunity a minute after half time when Egil Ostenstad saw a shot saved by home keeper Dean Kiely and then from the rebound saw his header hit the post.

The victory was CharltonÂ’s first home win over Blackburn for 16 years
