Charlton 3-0 Brentford- Match Report

Charlton earn first win under LuzonGuy Luzon celebrated his first victory as Charlton boss as his side recorded a much-needed 3-0 Sky Bet Championship win against play-off chasing Brentford. It was Luzon's first three-point haul in English football since he took over from the sacked Bob Peeters a month ago.The Israeli boss had gone four matches without a win, but an excellent first-half strike from Iceland international Johann Gudmundsson, a 55th minute goal from Igor Vetokele and a late third from Frederic Bulot ensured the win.It lifts the Addicks away from the drop zone to 18th, while Mark Warburton's Brentford, who have been in the top six for most the season, dropped to seventh.Plenty of the pre-match talk surrounded Mark Warburton's future at the Bees, with reports suggesting he could be sacked even if he leads Brentford to consecutive promotions

The board failed to reassure with a statement that refused to deny the claims. It certainly did not help Warburton's preparations for the London derby and his side where a long way from their free-flowing best at The Valley.Charlton have not won any of their last nine home games in all competitions but they created the first opportunity

With just five minutes on the clock the impressive Tony Watt ran at the heart of the defence

The ball fell to Gudmundsson who curled in a shot that was saved by David Button.Scottish international Watt, signed from Standard Liege in January, was a real handful throughout

He claimed his first goal for the Charlton during their midweek 3-2 defeat to Norwich and the 21-year-old was a whisker away from opening the scoring

On 11 minutes Bulot delivered a cross from the left and Watt was given time in the box to hit a low effort that Button pushed around the post.Charlton's last league win at The Valley was a 2-1 triumph against Bolton way back on October 21 but they deservedly opened the scoring on 26 minutes

A swift counter attack saw Vetokele tee-up Gudmundsson and he expertly curled the ball into the top corner from 15 yards for his seventh goal of the season. The only spoiler of an excellent first half for the Addicks was losing Rhoys Wiggins and skipper Johnnie Jackson to injury.Brentford's form on their travels has been the key to their surprising season

But it was the home side who increased their lead as Watt kept his cool in the box to pick out Vetokele who easily side-footed home for 2-0.Warburton responded with three substitutions as he brought on Jon Toral, Tommy Smith and Chris Long.Jonathan Douglas and Alex Pritchard had decent efforts but Charlton goalkeeper Stephen Henderson and the defenders in front of him held firm and it was left to Bulot to seal the win with a third in the final minute of normal time
