Charlton returned to The Valley this afternoon following a fighting victory over Southend United last Friday night.
The Addicks, who realistically needed a win to help keep the pressure on Leeds and Norwich, got exactly what they were hoping for.
Phil Parkinson's men started the match 2nd best and took 7 minutes to get a foot in the game, fortunately for the home side, the foot in the game came from an own goal that no one saw coming.
Charlton immediately pushed on from the opening goal and extended their lead all of 3 minutes later as Akpo Sodje headed home a Frazer Richardson cross for his 3rd goal in 3 games.
From that point on the game began to stagnate, with Stockport never really coming close to scoring and Charlton wasting several oppertunities to extend the lead even further.
As the full time whistle was blown, the Addicks were delighted to hear that Leeds had failed to win, meaning that Phil Parkinson's men are only 2 points behind 2nd place (although Leeds still have a game in hand)
Next saturday Charlton enter the Lions Den for what is guarenteed to be the toughest away game of the season both physically and mentally, however, with close to 3000 Addicks in attendance, the SE7 side will be hoping to reduce the Lions roar to a whimper.
Come on you Addicks!
