A Graham Stuart goal, in the wake of a late, missed penalty, looked to have thrown Charlton a lifeline at The Valley, but it was not to be, as Walsall pulled off a comprehensive piece of giantkilling, beating the Addicks 2-1.

Jorge Leitao was the hero for the visitors, claiming a first after just five minutes, and then doubling their lead after an hour had been played. Stuart them missed a penalty with 25 minutes remaining, and his late strike was not enough to snatch a replay.
