West Bromich Albion's battle to escape from the Premiership relegation zone took another battering when they went down 1-0 to Charlton Athletic at The Valley.

But the Baggies were desperately unlucky not to get something out of the game, which they dominated for long periods to frustrate a Charlton side who took their unbeaten run to eight matches, with five wins and three draws.

AlbionÂ’s dismal away form continued and they have taken only four points from 11 matches on their travels and scored only seven goals.

They fell behind on six minutes when Kevin Lisbie headed home Claus Jensen's corner. Albion keeper Russell Hoult then had to make two great saves to deny Jason Euell and Scott Parker.

But then it was Parker who came to Charlton's rescue, clearing Darren Moore's header off the line and just before half time Dean Kiely saved well from Ronnie Wallwork's shot.

Albion continued to press forward in search of an equaliser with Darren Moore and Daniele Dichio both going close with headers.

But Charlton hung on for the narrow victory to send Albion home to the Hawthorns frustrated from a game which they should have taken something from.

Charlton were unable to play their flowing football and Albion's strikers Jason Roberts and Dichio caused them constant problems with their strength.

Roberts, who was fortunate not to be red-carded in the first half after he elbowed Richard Rufus, felt he might have had a second-half penalty when he was hustled off the ball, but it wasn't to be Albion's day.
