Charlton 1 - 0 Bournemouth

Last updated : 07 August 2010 By Matt Fricker

Charlton began the season with a hard fought win after being reduced to 10- men against league new boys Bournemouth at The Valley this afternoon.

The Addicks started brightly and never really looked like loosing the game at any point during the 90 minutes. Worries that any Addicks may have had about the team stuttering at the start of this season were allayed when Akpo Sodje poked home a Kyel Reid cross after 28 minutes. In all honesty, Charlton should have probably scored a few more in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The second half saw Bournemouth put up more of a fight and the Cherries looked like they might have luck on their side as Jose Semedo found himself given a straight red card 28 minutes from time. Whether or not Jose deserved his red card is a decision to be made by the replays, although he definitely deserved the standing ovation he received.

From then on the Addicks stuck their boots in and fought hard for the remainder of the game, not a pretty win, but 3 points in the bag, and a very happy Valley.

Come on you Addicks!
