Charlton Athletic vs Carlisle United PREVIEW

Last updated : 29 October 2009 By Matt Fricker

This weekend Charlton will make the 328 mile journey North West to Brunton Park Stadium and the home of Carlisle United looking for a return to winning ways following a fortunate point gained at Gillingham last weekend.

The major news for Phil Parkinson’s men this week has been the injury to Rob Elliot, who unfortunately tore his abductor muscle during his influential performance at the KRBS Preistfield Stadium. An injury which is likely to rule out Charlton’s number one for up to six weeks.

Parky has responded to the injury news by immediately bringing Wolves’ 23 year old Carl Ikeme on emergency loan.

Ikeme, is highly rated by Wolves fans and is likely to provide stiff competition for Darren Randolph, who is expected to start in goal for the Addicks on Saturday.

The hosts for the weekend’s fixture, Carlisle United, have not had the best of starts to the League One season, having won only three games so far this campaign. The Cumbrians however are by no means going to be a walkover of a match. Greg Abbott’s side have drawn five matches this season against sides including Southampton and Leeds United. The Leeds draw was in fact the first occasion this season that Simon Grayson’s men had failed to win.

After Leeds’ victory in mid-week, the 2nd placed Londoners are going to need a win if they want to keep the pressure on both the Lilywhites and 3rd placed Colchester United for the automatic promotion spots, as League football takes a break for cup action.

My prediction for the starting eleven is:

GK: Darren Randolph
RB: Frazer Richardson
CB: Sam Sodje
CB: Christian Dailly
LB: Kelly Youga
RM: Lloyd Sam
CM: Jose Semedo
CM: Therry Racon
LM: Nicky Bailey ©
SS: Jonjo Shelvey
CF: Deon Burton

Subs: Carl Ikeme, Miguel Llera, Grant Basey, Matt Spring, Scott Wagstaff, Izale McLeod, David Mooney

Come on you Addicks!
