My Views: End of Season Slump and Curbishley

It’s happened again, the same thing, which has happened for the last 5 seasons. It’s becoming a habit for us Charlton fans to enjoy the whole season until April where it goes wrong.

First of I just want to say sorry for the lack of My Views articles recently. Its bad enough watching Charlton at the moment but its worse writing about it.

Our last decent result was against Tottenham at The Valley, we won 2-0 and for me it was the only time I really believed we could make Europe.

Since then we have played 6 drawn 2 lost 4. If we had of won just 2 of those games we would of been close to 7th in the league, instead we are now 11th fighting to get in the top 10.

I think Charlton's and Alan Curbishley biggest problem this season is beating last seasons 7th place finish. Fans now expect Europe and that’s what makes this seasons slump worse than previous seasons.

I have always said that I would be happy with a top 10 finish, I am frustrated that we haven't challenged for Europe because Charlton have the potential.

But spare a thought for those great fans up north supporting Newcastle this season, they are below us and have the potential to be a champions league team.

We have been playing badly, maybe some of the results where down to us missing El Karkouri. He was sent off against West Brom (which we lost) and then didn’t play for the next 3 games in which we drew with City (which was lucky) and two defeats against Portsmouth and Bolton.

Our latest lost against Man Utd was expected, the team didn’t play well and we were punished. I do have to give credit to Curbishley for dropping Kiely. That was a shocker and something I never expected him to do. Andersson performed well and was unlucky to concede 4.

But UI was concerned hearing Curbishley at the end of the game, you get the impression he was fed up and started to question his future at Charlton. I may of questioned Curb's this season but he is Charlton. I really can’t imagine Charlton without him.

Name one manager who would go to Charlton, its very difficult and then compare them with Curbishley and you realise how important he is to Charlton.

If Curbishley has had enough then I would say give it one more season and see what happens. I personally want him to stay on and hope the fans give him the support he deserves in our last game against Palace at The Valley.
