My Views: Portsmouth vs Charlton

My Views: Portsmouth 4 Charlton 2

Another defeat for the Addicks which now could mean that the European dream is off for another season.

Once again the team didn’t play well. Curbishley did make changes and went back to 4-4-2. But it didn’t work, as we didn’t create enough chances to win the game.

I felt we were lucky to get back to 2-2 so quickly, we didn’t play well enough to deserve to equalise but I was relieved when we did.

The second half was worse, although it was a great display from Pompy, we just did have the firepower up front.

What’s really disturbing is how bad we are defensively. We are normally very good at the back but the stats tell us otherwise. We have let in 48 goals this season - only the teams below Pompy in 15 places have conceded more. And we are still struggling to score with just 39 goals.

These are our two biggest areas of concern - it just shows we still need a world-class striker and another world-class centre back. I have heard rumours of a possible £15m transfer kitty over the summer. Lets hope Curbishley uses it well.

On a rather sad note I was very disappointed by some of our fans at the game. I can understand our end being a little quiet because we were two down but there was a small section of fans who were shout at other Charlton fans to stand up and sing - I do enjoy getting involved but I think its out of order to shout at fans to stand up when people are trying to enjoy the game. You have to respect the people behind you when watching the game - if they don’t stand up then I wont, as I don’t want to block their views. And to have Charlton fans moaning and singing abuse at Charlton fans is disgraceful - these guys were singing "your only here for the travel" - when im sure they probably used it as well.

Bolton next at The Valley - a loss would mean no more Europe - a win and we could dream a little longer.
