Varney Linked With Premiership Move

Wigan, who are expected to announce Steve Bruce as their new manager, and struggling Middlesbrough have their eye on the man who Alan Pardew signed from Crewe Alexandra for £2.5 million in the summer.

Varney was injured until September and since making his Addicks debut, has scored only two goals, with Scotland B international Chris Iwelumo being the preferred front man.

It seems unlikely though, that Varney will make the move up to the top flight unless the Addicks are not promoted this season.

Meanwhile, midfielder Darren Ambrose has been linked with a move to Championship side, and former club, Ipswich Town.

Ambrose was signed by former boss Alan Curbishley from the Tractor Boys in July 2005, but has failed to impress the Charlton fans, and with Ipswich boss Jim Magilton possibly recieving a £10 million transfer kitty in January, he may spend some of it on the man he played with for a number of years.
