Afterwards Alan Curbishley was still recalling Charlton's the barren run of results from the end of last year: "I can't forget the pain of our dreadful run but I sat down at Christmas and thought things have got to change. We are turning it around, but we went behind to soft set play."

Eidur Gudjohnson put the home side in front, but after the interval Charlton levelled through substitute Marcus Bent who was making his Addicks debut.

Curbishley added: "We had to work so hard to get into their third of the field and once there our attacks were fizzling out, so I just asked them at half-time to show a bit more composure when we got there. We gave as good as we got after that."
