Six defeats cuts safety leash for boss

Alan Curbishley knows another loss against rock-bottom Sunderland today could leave chairman Richard Murray asking serious questions, reported The Sun.

He said: "Just because I’ve been here for 15 years I’m not immune from what comes my way when you lose six in a row. I’m not that way inclined to think I don’t deserve it. So we have to change things and as the manager you look at everything. I'm saying to the fans ‘we need you to get behind us’. We need you to be up for the game and if you're anxious don't show it because there comes a time at a club when everyone has to muck in. We need a response from the fans at the weekend and they need something from us. I am assuring everybody that we've worked as hard as we can in training this week and we'll be working as hard as we can on the pitch on Saturday. As I've said in my programme notes for the Sunderland game, we need you. But perhaps if this carries on, in five weeks I might be going on holiday! That’s the way it is."
