Powell had overseen wins in his first four games in charge but came crashing down to earth with a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool on Tuesday night.
The Addicks slipped to six points behind the automatic-promotion spots and Powell wants them to bounce back straight away.
"I will learn more about my team, about how they react to a defeat," he said.
"We have a good game against Exeter. We are on a decent run at home and have won our last three, so this is another learning curve for everyone."
