Pardew Relieved After Cup Win

Charlton led 2-0 at half-time but went 3-2 behind before a Lloyd Sam free kick levelled the scores, and Paddy McCarthy scored the winner in the final minute.

Despite the win though, Pardew said that defensively his side are still looking decidedly dodgy.

"It was an unbelievable game tonight, and in some ways perhaps the first half was too easy" said Pardew

"We really played well and defended well, and I sensed a feeling in the dressing room at half-time that we thought we were too good for them, which is always hard to get rid of."

"They changed things around and hit us with three good goals, and suddenly we had to chase the game."

"The back four have to accept a lot of responsibility for what happened in the second half. We were comfortably controlling them in the first half so we do have that ability, but we just lost focus in the second half."
