"Let's see how the teams around us cope with the pressure of the relegation battle," Hreidarsson told the Mirror.
"Just before Christmas we looked dead and buried and the fans turned against us. But the manager, players and fans are all together now and we feel we can escape relegation.
"In many ways, the whole situation has turned around. The pressure is on the other teams now, and that can affect players.
"We've Wigan at home, Man City away and then Reading at home - massive games for us.
"If we get the results in those games, and the home game with Sheffield United, we'll have a great chance of escaping relegation.
"If we don't perform and don't get results in those fixtures, we deserve to go down. It's as simple as that."
