Help Expand The Valley

From cafc.co.uk
"Charlton unveiled proposals to expand the stadium back in November 2003 with the first stage of this exciting development meaning the erection of an upper tier on the east stand.

Before planning permission can be submitted to Greenwich Council, the club must carry out a supporters' survey to ascertain how fans travel to The Valley on a matchday.

An upper tier on the east stand would take the ground's capacity to slightly more than 30,000, and the club needs to investigate how those supporters would get to Charlton on a matchday so that potential problems that could arise due to increased amounts of traffic can be avoided.

"If the club is to continue to increase the capacity at The Valley, it must develop a transportation plan, which looks at different options and proposals for the sustainable management of the transport needs of supporters," explained operations director Mick Everett.

"These proposals would obviously include initiatives to promote and improve the attractiveness of using public transport, cycling and walking, and to reduce the impact of car use in the surrounding area.

"Before any planning application for the east stand can be submitted to Greenwich Council, the club needs as many fans as possible to complete a transportation questionnaire to discover how supporters currently travel to home matches at The Valley.

"Once this has been established we will then look into proposals to improve accessibility to the ground on matchdays. Any proposals will have to be realistic and practical, with the ultimate aim of increasing the travel choices for supporters."

It is important that as many supporters as possible complete the survey, which is very short and should take just a couple of minutes to complete, before the deadline of Friday, October 29th.

Everett added: "Charlton want to be the biggest football club south of the Thames - and our supporters will play a huge role in achieving this."
