Dowie Pleased With Rommedahl

The Danish international winger, who struggled to hold down a regular starting place under former boss Alan Curbishley, has impressed Dowie during his short time in charge at The Valley.

"Dennis had been doing well for the previous couple of games, but then he got injured, which was disappointing," said Dowie.

"He will be the first to admit that his time here has not been as fruitful as he would have liked, but he is showing to me now that he is capable and hopefully he will come back from Denmark in good shape.

"Dennis has got lots of assets, so we have to concentrate on getting the best out of him.

"If things carry on the way they are at the moment I see no reason why discussions over a new contract should not begin sooner rather than later."
