Dickson was signed by manager Alan Pardew from Dulwich Hamlet for a fee of £50,000, but he is down the pecking order of strikers that include Marcus Bent, Chris Iwelumo, Izale McLeod, Svetoslav Todorov and former Crewe striker Luke Varney.

Manager Pardew said, "We think it will be a good education for him to go up and work with Dario Gradi."

"There were four clubs that came in to take him on loan and he picked Crewe."

"We've had good dealings with them over the summer because of Luke Varney and we have a good relationship with them."

"I'm hoping he's a big success. I want him to score goals and I think he will."

Gradi said of the 22-year-old, "Chris Dickson has a good goalscoring record in non-league and for Charlton's reserve side."

"He is a goalscorer and comes highly recommended by Alan Pardew and our own Luke Varney. We have spoken to Luke about him and he says he has an eye for goal".
