And while speculation about the manager's future lingers, a former England manager has heaped relative raise on the Addicks.

Curbs said: "Graham Taylor said to me we were the most successful team over the last 10 years without winning anything."

While any serious title challenge might be in the fantasy mould, reaching a cup final like Southampton and Millwall have both managed, has eluded the Addicks since long before even Alan Curbishley became manager.

"For whatever reason we've not yet done anything in the cups under me," he added.
