The Charlton boss said: "My team have lost one in their last eight in the Premiership and have made sure along the way that next season this club will enjoy its eighth season in the Premiership out of ten. The other two seasons were promotion campaigns. That's a great achievement as far as I am concerned."

Curbishley also commented about the possibility of agreeing a new contract at Charlton before the summer if the England job is offered to someone else.

He added: "Richard (Murray) spoke to me when we were second in the league. I could have taken advantage of that. He talked to me when we were in a slump and maybe he could have taken advantage of that."

Meanwhile, Addicks chief executive Peter Varney revealed the club has already made a contingency plan in case Curbishley does leave for England.

Varney said: "With the length of time the whole (appointing) process is taking, we've taken steps to make sure we know which direction we want to go in if Alan Curbishley is the actual choice at the end of the day."
