Curbs criticises big-time Charlies

The Sun today revealed that Alan Curbishley fears Charlton’s Carling Cup victory over Chelsea last month may wreck their season. The Addicks won 5-4 on penalties, Jose Mourinho’s first-ever defeat at Stamford Bridge, after the tie ended 1-1, despite extra-time.

He groaned: "When we came off at Chelsea we were on a high and second in the table.

"Then we did not get a result against Bolton and had a dreadful game at Blackburn. Manchester United turned up and that made it three on the spin. I was sure we’d get something at Villa on Saturday but we did not perform. One or two thought they had arrived and I told them that.

"Performances count. There is no sentiment in it. They know they’ve not done themselves justice. I love my players to bits and am quick to praise them when we win so I'm not going to go overboard. I'm just disappointed at how things have turned around so quickly. We have two games to try and turn things round."
