Curbs: Centenary represents here and now

After recent slide Alan Curbishley himself feels 100 years old, reported The Daily Mirror.

At Charlton’s centenary dinner in central London last night, Curbishley said: "I think people are getting tired of all that talk of how far we have come. People are getting tired of what we have done. I think they want to know what is happening now."

The real problem this term has been inconsistency - Curbs took no chances on Saturday in a successful attempt at ending the run of six straight defeats.

"The fans can criticise if they want but it was always going to happen (replacing Jerome Thomas, Alexei Smertin and Darren Bent at 2-0). Bent took a knock and was doubtful for the game anyway."

In The Guardian he conceded: "Playing with one striker at home might seem a little negative but Darren Bent is accustomed to the role and there was plenty of offensive running from midfield by Danny Murphy, Jerome Thomas and Alexei Smertin. If we'd started the season like West Ham, with maybe a win, a defeat and a draw, no one would have said anything. But it's the way we've done it that has upset people. We started the season by racing out of the blocks and even beat Chelsea away [in the Carling Cup]. Then we lost a few that were humiliating.
