Curbishley Signs New Deal

Curbishley said: "I have always said I was happy at Charlton throughout all the speculation and stories that have been written about me," said Curbishley.

"I would not have signed this new contract if I didn't feel totally content. The club has continued to move forward, both on and off the field, and I firmly believe we have still not fulfilled our potential.

"In the past we have started seasons talking about getting 40 points and securing safety. When this season began, I felt we had come far enough that we could realistically talk about becoming a top ten club - if we did, then a European place would not be far away. So far we have managed to fulfil that expectation, although we are well aware there is still a lot to be done if the hard work of the first six months of the season is to bear fruit.

"Looking further ahead, I am excited by the prospect of being able to assemble the biggest squad Charlton has ever had. To compete at this level, you need a squad of about 25 players - with the funds that will be made available to me I feel I can bring in the players we need to complement those we already have here.

"I have an excellent working relationship with the chairman, and I know I might not enjoy such a set-up elsewhere. The Charlton fans have been magnificent over the years, and hopefully by signing this contract they will see that I believe the best times are still to come."
