An ironic end to the Murphy saga

Spurs had purchased a Charlton player last week, to try and address their lack of creativity from midfield. Then after three games without producing a goal, and with the aforementioned Danny Murphy watching from the stand as part of a gentleman’s agreement between the two clubs, the north Londoners scored three times against the Addicks.

Curbishley afterwards said: "Spurs deserved everything they got. I thought Carrick was terrific today."
