Away Views: Charlton vs Palace

Players to watch out for?

Andy Johnson is the obvious one to mention. Our upturn in form has coincided with AJ taking on a lone role up front in a 4-5-1 formation - and he loves it. That line-up isn't as defensive as it sounds though, as we have two very attacking wingers on either side in Joonas Kolkka and Wayne Routledge. Both are phenomenally quick and full of tricks. Keep an eye out for new keeper Gabor Kiraly as well - he's already establishing himself as a cult figure at Selhurst.

Your views on Charlton?

Grudgingly impressed. Curbishley has worked wonders for you over the last God knows how long and you look to be an established Premiership club these days.

Your expectations for the season?
A constant battle. I've seen us play both Norwich and West Brom already this season, and honestly believe we're the best equipped of the three promoted sides for survival. We've got a goalscorer who's on fire, and haven't been turned over by anyone yet. If we can keep grinding out good results like those against Fulham and West Brom, we've got a real shout of staying up.

Player for the future?

Tom Soares is a strong young midfielder who's on the verge of breaking into the first-team setup. He might even get a run-out at the Valley on Wednesday night. He's highly-rated by both Dowie and regulars at Palace's reserve games.
One who's already established himself is Wayne Routledge. He's only 19, but has been a first-team regular for the last three seasons. The whispers are that he'll be off in January, which is a real shame because Wayne will develop into an absolute superstar.

Do the Palace fans hate Charlton - or consider them their nearest rivals?

You won't find many Palace fans who hate Charlton, to be honest. Brighton are by far and away our biggest rivals, despite their current pathetic stature. For the majority of Palace fans the next on the list is Millwall, and then maybe Charlton after that.

Predictions for the game?

It really depends on the starting line-ups of the two teams. It looks like Palace could rest some of our regulars (including AJ, probably), to keep them fresh for the Prem struggle. I suspect Charlton may do the same, so I'll go for a 1-1 draw with Palace sneaking it on penalties!
